Online Newspaper-a stand-alone publication or an online version of a printed periodical.

Blame for recent decline in print newspapers

  • Recession meant that people didn't have as much disposable income to buy daily newspapers.
  • People now want news on the go and so are turning to technology to get their news from things like news websites and social media.
  • People also now want their news quicker and daily print newspapers often contain news which is already old in comparison to what's available on the internet.
  • Advertisers can now advertise online for free on things like Gumtree. Because of this, many advertisers are now using online ads instead of newspaper ads which is causing a decrease in advertising revenue for newspaper companies. This is especially damaging considering that newspaper advertising revenue accounts for 70% of newspaper costs.
